We’re making cake pops today! AND train car cakes!

it’s a free day/do a little bit of work day. heh. it’s about to be a crazy month, one of those again!

What we HAVE been to, which was my very first time attending, is a BALL! I know I’m lame but you should have seen those dresses!!! I thought I was being dressy, my dress literally fit right in. I wore my evening gown that I wore on the night Daniel & I got married in Singapore. According to Mr. Robin Chiu, I looked like a guppy :)

The ball was pretty fun and a wonderful, new experience. I had never seen more REAL diamond earrings, necklaces and gorgeous elaborate dresses!!! We didn’t take any pictures, OF COURSE, cos we’re bad photographers that way, and this time i REALLY regret it. Anyways, here’s a picture that we took of us after we left the ball.

Plus! We recently did a shoot for a fancy local boutique called McB’s and we are in lovee with the pictures :) You can head over to www.mcbsboutique.com to see some of them, but we’re putting up a full blown look at all the pictures, magazine style soon :D

Today...

was an everything needs to go wrong day.

1) Everything was fine and going smoothly in regards to preparing for the Bridal Expo - we were going to have lunch, pick up some easels, and head over to set up.

Except… our car battery died. Right when we were going to leave after lunch. Then also, no one could come get us. No one. Not Daniel’s parents, not our friends, we had to ask the people who worked at the coffee shop to help us and truly we thank God that one of the employees had jumper cables in his car.

2) Fine, we go get our car battery from Daniel’s parents’ place. Everything was fine. We head over to our booth area and found out the building was allowing everyone to set up till 9pm! Awesome.

Except… we needed to get furniture and props from Daniel’s parents business place, they usually close at 5pm. It was 5.15pm. We figured it was a regularly day for them and they were just at home chillin’. Nope. When we called, they were headed down to the coast to check on something for work and they were an hour away. So we had no keys to a truck, and we had no keys to the houses we needed to get furniture from. So the YAY for the 9pm thing was a negative.

3) So what do we do? Ok, go and get a frame for our competition print at Hobby Lobby. Oh wait, their frames weren’t 50% off and we had to spend 89.99 on a frame. great. So We found a good alternative, and all we needed to was to go home and get the picture to be framed.

On top of that I still needed to design a poster and get it printed. We proceed to head to Sam’s Club to pick up our 400 4x6s we got printed there. I sit in the parking lot and design while Daniel & Jace get curtains. We try and go into Sam’s Club. I had JUST signed up for a membership under my name, dumb mistake on my part cos i have no ID that says Stephanie Bishop!! My ID says Goh Mei Wan S - Awesome. That took a while for us to get settled.

We got that done, then our prints are fine, so i try to print my poster on one of those machines, and NOPE. the file could not read. Goodness I was ready to give up at this point.

All this while we were trying to get to the Fall Art Walk which was supposed to be a festival of fun, music & art. it was about 6.30pm when we got to Sam’s Club.

5) We go back to get the picture to get it framed, get to hobby lobby, the frame we picked out? Wrong size. We are dummies - that’s ok, we found another correct alternative, and this lady who was helping us was super nice and gave us 50% off. That’s one good thing!

6) Get to the Fall Art Walk, it’s about 8pm. Everything is almost over and at this point we were all STARVING. and there’s no food to be found! We leave and try and think of a good but inexpensive place to eat. Negative. Went to McDonalds- they got our order wrong!!!

We just sat there and laughed for a longgg while. Things finally got better when everything was over and we got home. And watched funny movies.

Sorry, i just had to recount this bad day. The worst possible day fate could pick, but we got through it, and I’m sure many people had way worst days, but everything went so wrong that it just had to be blogged about.

Romantic Comedies just don't cut it.

Generally, my preferred style of movie just isn’t romantic comedies. And if they’re just romantic dramas, even more so I’d rather not watch them. Action, Thriller, War-themed, Drama, Inspirational, Indie, Foreign - those are my kind of genres. I mean, of course there are a few that I do like - one of my favourites is You’ve Got Mail (oldschool) & I remember The Proposal (more recent) sticking out in my mind particularly.

Anyways, I’m saying all this because I just had an epiphany! I do like romantic movies, just a very niche section of it.

Well, I was watching Jane Eyre today and that’s when it dawned on me how much I enjoy period romance films. Pride & Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Sense & Sensibility and now Jane Eyre. I enjoyed that movie immensely, so much to say that may be one of the best movies I’ve seen this year.

Romance back then depended on a touch of a hand, or a flirtatious glance or playful polite banter. People fell in love with one another without having even kissed yet, much less touched each other. Something about the chivalry, the politeness, the etiquette, the innocence of romance then, the subtle chase, the presence of an unspoken love almost always thwarted by an arranged marriage or accidentally misplaced affections is just so thrilling to me - though probably completely and utterly boring to many others.

Therefore! I was so impacted by Jane Eyre that I decided to share this epiphany i had - though probably uninteresting to many more others, but I do implore (good gosh, i’m starting to even write in their old ways) you to give Jane Eyre a shot or any of the above mentioned movies if you’re feeling like a change, like some old-fashioned, clean, proper romance.

Cos not everything is about that one night stand or that guy at the bar, you know? ;)

** Psst btw, I change ze blog layout cos the other one wouldn’t display photos right! hahas, just saying..**

For a while now, I’ve been having trouble with figuring out what type of photography i want to do in life. I mean, portraits & weddings, that’s what I love to do, BUT i always thought that maybe I could pursue a bigger dream of being a fashion photographer. I would never call myself that now, cos really I haven’t done as much as I would have wanted and I haven’t achieved the level that I set for myself to deem myself as one. Circumstances also pulled me away from that entire idea and threw me into the world of weddings.

And Oh. How i love it. Yes, it is only AFTER my two weddings, that I’m really in love with weddings. Isn’t that just ironic? Oh wells, better to love it than to hate it right?

So recently, we found out about a Bridal Expo - and they’re having a competition for photographers! And there’s a category for “Contemporary - High Fashion”. Honestly, i think that means something different here than it does in a big city, BUT this really got my wheels turning (hey, we just finished Limitless too, muaha) and I saw everything as a fish eye…. hahas jk. Anyways, i started looking up wedding fashion images - and i was absolutely in love with what I saw. Wedding Dresses + Gorgeous Lighting + DramaticScenes?!?! Heck yeah. Total Epiphany.

I mean just look at this -

(1-4) Zhang Jing Na (Possibly the most talented fashion photographer in Singapore - and she’s like my age or a few years older than me?? I say possibly cos i don’t know if someone else has popped up. But she is to me!)

(5 & 6) Lucida Photography (Now she is the one i look up to as per wedding photography - this is what we’re progressing towards)

(7 & 8) Mario Testino (This guy IS my idol for photography. HE IS AMAZING.)

We’re about to do a shoot especially for this competition and that will be the real test. We’ll see what comes out and if the results are good, ooh boy.

I’m going to have a field day.

Yesterday I was made to watch this documentary - Food inc. I say made, because I knew there was going to be things like animals being abused and just mistreated in this movie and I desperately wanted to avoid that. But the husband said, Steph, you really do have to watch this. The animal stuff isn’t as bad as you think.

Well, it really wasn’t and boy, was it an eye-opener. I may have turned vegetarian for a while during the movie.

Now, I know everybody says that and i also know that many people just don’t want to watch these documentaries just because of the effect it’s going to have on them. I know it’s annoying and hard, and but please please, DON’T STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE GROUND! Be aware! Buy food that actually means something to a farmer out there and don’t patronize those big mega corporations!

Every time you buy food that legitimately says it’s organic, you are taking a stand, casting a vote. A vote for a the proper system of farming, eating and respect to the people, the planet, the environment and the animals. You’re literally making a change. We may not be able to change widespread poverty or disease in the world right now, but we can change the food we eat.

Wal Mart, one of the biggest companies in America, now has an organic alternative to many of its products! This shows that people are getting together in this movement and clearly customers from Walmart are demanding for these products.

Coming from Singapore, we don’t have chickens with mammoth sized breasts and I’ve been told by people who have both lived in Singapore and US/Canada that they could TASTE the difference in the chicken, they could taste the hormones and the antibiotics. And this honestly scares the living daylights out of me! I want my regular sized chicken back! I want my beef to be made from cows that eat grass!

Alright, I’ve gone on for a while, but i truly believe in what i’m saying AND I am really trying to make a difference by writing this - hopefully I can inspire you to watch this documentary with your friends and family.
