this was i guess the highlight of the day, for my second day as an intern at Calibre Pics. i mean, how often do you unintentionally get sexually assaulted!?? hahahahas.

i have half a mind to buy a wig. Or keep my hair long again…

sigh. the hazards of a short cut.

anyways, the shoots that i was on today were pretty fun. I’m so glad to be at this again, after one year of school. Yes i did my own shoots and no i don’t actually get much control of anything as an intern, but it feels really good to be finally free to do what i really want to do. To make decisions without the constraint of class or projects.

More updates soon! and new shoots will be up, gosh i’m so bad at putting shoots up it’s incredible.

i know these talent shows are cliche, but i never fail to be amazed. gosh. She has such a huge voice… and she’s TEN. sure she goes off a little and whatever, but she’s TEN. can you imagine when she’s TWENTY?? if she doesn’t become a lindsay or a britney, then she’ll be big. though, she kinda has that look, the look where she’ll get all cocky and become crazy, i must admit. Hahas, all remains to be seen.

I would love to be able to sing like that. sigh. or be a dancer. hahahas. dreaming, am i.

When i saw the trailer, i was so intrigued. The film hasn’t been released yet i think and it’ll be screened starting September 15 around the U.S.

This film has even been hailed as the “Culinary Hurt Locker”.

I’m so excited.

For the longest time, I thought my Apple “Super-drive” sucked ass. And being an Apple fan, even i had to admit it. Every single time i burnt a DVD, it would spit it back out with some kind of bloody m-effing error that would cause me to YELL.

But some time in the last 2 years, I discovered something. Ok, the Apple optical drive isn’t all that good.

**Begin rant within rant* Really, the region code thing is bloody annoying, especially for someone like me that has both a mix of both region code 1 and 3 DvDs. And this is not cos i am ripping or stealing DVDs or whatever, but it’s pretty much cos i’ve lived in both places and naturally, because i WOULDN’T want to pirate DVDs, hence i would buy them. But nooooo, the Apple drive INSISTS on looking at this code crap and thus eventually LOCKED my DVD drive into region 3 just before i went to the US (Region 1). GRRRR. Well since getting a new MBP, i am wise enough not to make the mistake again. **End rant within rant**

So even though the drive isn’t great, i’ve realised that majority of these errors are NOT the fault of the drive but the fault of the discs themselves. Also having been a windows using for a long time, i know windows has its CD/DVD burning problems too, strange how DVD burning is such an difficult tasks for these machines.

Anyways. for all of those who have NOT realised this, DVD brands such as IMATION and MEMOREX, are BAD brands which screw up almost every single time.

I put into like 5 imation dvds to burn some photos to, none of them got past the first minute of burning. Some didn’t even begin to burn. I just put in a Sony DVD-R and it worked like a dream. Smooth. No hiccups.

Sigh. What is the matter with imation and memorex? What is the point of unreliable DVDs? They’re supposed to be for backing up, but what happens when the back up screws up on you first?

Hahas. ok Rant over.

The thing is, I’m my own worst critic when it comes to my own stuff. I never think highly of my work, especially after you give me like two days after i did it, i’ll be ripping it apart.

So when i have high standards, be it a photo or a piece of design or writing or whatever, i really don’t compare it to my own stuff, but rather the work that I aspire to and have seen before.

I want my opinion to mean something, maybe because that would be what i want to hear from others. Good solid opinion.

Shouldn’t people be pushed past the easy “that’s cool/really nice” limit? So many times, people give that comment too easily, and too quickly. It almost doesn’t mean anything anymore.

It’s a little frustrating when people think I’m being too harsh and I don’t cut people slack.

Isn’t being a perfection (not unreasonably) and not being too easily satisfied when greatness is accomplished?

Could you really appreciate praise that is too carelessly handed out? I couldn’t. I guess it’s a pride thing.

Now on the topic of striving for perfection and being critical, there’s another very important side to the story.

You can have high standards, but being overly unreasonably critical and overly harsh is also something that can destroy you as a person as well as people around you. it can be demoralising and admittedly, I am guilty of this but not with others. I can be so negative about my own work that I take it to a whole new level, as my boyfriend has told me. Unfortunately he has had to listen to all my ranting and unhappiness.

Nothing is perfect and nothing can ever be. I’m still working on accepting that and realising that I cannot possibly be so critical on myself.

Though I personally prefer apartments, and sure as hell wouldn’t mind a loft with a mezzanine as a bedroom, I would LOVE to be rich and famous and have this as a vacation home. HAHAHHAS.

I took the last academic exam I will be taking in hopefully a veryyyy longg time… at least 5-10 years. I’m finally graduating with a degreee!!

SO! my girls and i decided to celebrate :) We went for a late night dessert-fest, though yes it is insidiously sinful, it was something that had to be done. Hahas. Oh but before i move on, i’ve got to tell you that I was having a conversation on iChat with my friends and they started talking about MOLTEN CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE. It was inception. I was possessed by the one single idea. heh. if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll get it. Anyways, i was like… ooooohhh chocolate lava cake please please please please pleassseee.

(btw! if you want a FANTASTIC non-chocolate lava cake, PLEASE try the white chocolate raspberry something something molten lava cake. the first time i had it, my eyes literally rolled to the back of my head and i was in heaven for like 5 seconds)

Anyways! so we had our sugar fix at The Coffee Connoisseur and these are photos from our super fun dessert date.

This, is the Devil-Misu, which was very good, in my opinion, so sorry for the sucky photos, my iPhone isn’t that capable. Both Grace and Lynnette ordered this!

Audrey’s bread pudding, which was unfortunately kinda disappointing. As my other friends have told me, finding reallly good bread pudding in Singapore is not easy at all. I really wonder why, it seems so easy to make!

And ta–dahhhh this is the molten chocolate cake… sad to say, it wasn’t that special :( especially for the price i paid.

It looked amazing, but its taste could not live up to its looks.

Oh wells, i had lots of fun and laughter to accompany it, so i wasn’t bothered by it.

Lynnette decided to stay over at my place, finally… for once in her life, and we got home at 2am, watched The Blind Side and slept at 5am. We proceeded to awake and watch this incredible waste of time of a movie, called 14 Blade. Oh my goodness… for a Chinese Kung Fu movie featuring Donnie Yen, I expected better. All of it was just… too much. Too dark, too complicated of a plot, too much special effects, we were sooo drained!

So my parting note is … don’t watch that movie. Ok! time to sleep or do something unproductive with my SUPER SPARE TIME!!

Anyways, i recently saw a portrait session of her by Bruna Castanheira, whose work has such a natural feel to it. Well, i was also amazed by how gorgeous she was. I never really noticed. What was even more interesting was that she’s of indigenous Brazilian descent and that is freakin awesome.

And in case you weren’t sure what indigenous people from Brazil look like, cos i didn’t.

I love it when people are from their roots, and they’re so naturally beautiful because everyone you see in the industry nowadays is so made up and they’re trying so hard to look unique through whatever sort of ways, and yet there’s this girl who’s making it big and yet representing a group of relatively unknown people.

It’s been a crazy past few days and I’ve been pretty much doing design work straight since Sunday.

I might have mentioned this before, but my team and I have been formulating a public relations campaign for our designated not-for-profit organisation. The ideas and the constant discussions and the total brain-frying has been frustrating and yet so much fun, it’s so awesome that we’re finally here. The entire project finishes up with a conference where all the different groups within this elective pitch their ideas to the judges.

We’re at the last stage where we share our brilliant, if i do say so myself :D, ideas with the “world” or rather just the 85 students who are gonna be present at the conference. I hope we do an amazing job!
