My dog just had surgery :( He’s currently recovering in the animal hospital, and according to my mom, doing pretty good for a dog that had just been cut open. So that’s really good to hear. I hope he’ll be back home soon…
This is an older picture of him, pre-surgery giving me the evil eye for spying on him. heh.
On to happier news, Congratulations to my best friend Robin for giving a great performance in his musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, where he played the lead role of Jimmy Smith, Millie’s love interest. I managed to snap some shots in the dark theatre so take a look.. The pictures are kinda small, cos i only had a 50mm on me, we were supposed to go out for drinks/supper after so i didn’t want to bring my huge 70-200. hahas. I did my best!
Him doing his solo ;)
You can’t really see what he looks like, but i hope you get the feel of the musical from the photos.
Ree Drummond is an awesome blogger who writes about her life on a ranch, a mother and a photographer and many other things. Her blog is called Confessions of a Pioneer Woman.
As much as so much of my life has nothing in common with hers and though i do find the idea of calf castration quite disturbing and often skip those posts involving the matter, i love reading her confessions and cooking blogs. She’s sooo funny. And every dish she posts on there, I want to cook. And I always dream of having my own kitchen, and having money to buy ingredients SO that i can cook the stuff she makes. Anyways i was deeply amused by her latest post…which you can view here.
I just watched the full 1hour 20 min keynote presentation and it was great. And it made me want one even more.
At first, I was thinking, is there REALLY a market for an in-between device when there was the iPhone and the whole range of laptops? And after watching the presentation, i think there very well may be space for the device. I don’t think people would buy it as their first choice that much, just because the iPhone has the calling capable and the laptop with its immense processing speed and power. But wouldn’t it be amazing to have one in the living room just so that when you’re watching a movie or a tv show and you feel like looking something up, it’s right at your fingertips?
Plus as a photographer, this is an amazing on-the-go beautiful portfolio book to have around. Just the size and the quality of the screen is enough to make your photos look amazing and yet you don’t have to carry a bulky portfolio around. I’m not saying this will eliminate physical portfolios altogether, but it is an extremely useful device to have on hand for those chance meetings. And so many of the time, chance meetings are the ones that land you your big break!
Alright, one thing though. the name…i don’t really like it that much. Well it’s losing the initial impression i had of it, which was a marvelously large electronic female monthly essential but it just doesn’t fit in my opinion. Ok yes, all the hardcore Apple fans are probably jumping to the name’s defense, but hey, i’m a pretty hardcore fan too.
Whatever it is, it’ll probably be a while before I’ll be able to get one, but a girl can dream can’t she? :)
Soo…recently, i have not been able to really listen to anything else except The Avett Brothers. There’s just something about their music and their lyrics and the feel of their songs. I’m incredibly glad that I was introduced to their music.
Anyways, one of my favourite songs from them is The Ballad of Love and Hate. It’s so real and raw. read the lyrics. really. while you listen to it. you’ll be touched i’m sure (well, hopefully!).
Love writes a letter and sends it to hate.
My vacations ending. I’m coming home late.
The weather was fine and the ocean was great
and I can’t wait to see you again.
Hate reads the letter and throws it away.
“No one here cares if you go or you stay.
I barely even noticed that you were away.
I’ll see you or I won’t, whatever.”
Love sings a song as she sails through the sky.
The water looks bluer through her pretty eyes.
And everyone knows it whenever she flies,
and also when she comes down.
Hate keeps his head up and walks through the street.
Every stranger and drifter he greets.
And shakes hands with every loner he meets
with a serious look on his face.
Love arrives safely with suitcase in tow.
Carrying with her the good things we know.
A reason to live and a reason to grow.
To trust. To hope. To care.
Hate sits alone on the hood of his car.
Without much regard to the moon or the stars.
Lazily killing the last of a jar
of the strongest stuff you can drink.
Love takes a taxi, a young man drives.
As soon as he sees her, hope fills his eyes.
But tears follow after, at the end of the ride,
cause he might never see her again.
Hate gets home lucky to still be alive.
He screams o’er the sidewalk and into the drive.
The clock in the kitchen says 2:55,
And the clock in the kitchen is slow.
Love has been waiting, patient and kind.
Just wanting a phone call or some kind of sign,
That the one that she cares for, who’s out of his mind,
Will make it back safe to her arms.
Hate stumbles forward and leans in the door.
Weary head hung, eyes to the floor.
He says “Love, I’m sorry”, and she says, “What for?
I’m your and that’s it, Whatever.
I should not have been gone for so long.
I’m your’s and that’s it, forever.”
Ok so I always think the best part of travelling, one of the best anyways, is experiencing the different types of food. You may not necessarily like it or you may love it, but it’s always an experience. There’s so much about the culture of the people in the food, even by the way it’s cooked and even the way it’s eaten.
SO. Honestly, i really like the food in America. obviously i’ll always be impartial to Singaporean food, but what the American menu has to offer is surprisingly tasty. Al beit, they do go a good bit aways from the Asian style, which did take a little while to get used to, I eventually came to love their cuisine.
I do love a good burger, and Americans are GOOD at that. Hahas. Sandwiches of all kinds really. I haven’t fallen in love with bread just yet, as compared to rice, but I remember eating at this New Orleans style restaurant in Laurel, MS and we ordered an extra basket of bread to go with our soup and goodness, that was some delicious bread.
Before arriving in the US for the first time in 2008, I had this impression that the portions in American were gargantuan. Yes, i said GARGANTUAN. and really, i was wrong. Actually, it really depends on what you order. Please refer to Fig. A & B. below:
I know it’s kinda hard to see, but my plate was a lot bigger than his plate, PLUS it was piled up really high. When the menu said the “salad” was a meal in itself, i didn’t expect it to be that big.
Now, about a week and a half before I left, friends Eli and Layne, discovered that I had not yet eaten at Ward’s. Daniel had previously mentioned it before as well. He said that Ward’s was a fast food joint which can only be found in Southern Mississippi and no where else. He said I pretty much HAD to eat there in order to get the full Southern Mississippian experience.
He then went on to mention that the place had probably the greasiest food in the entire town.
He was right. We went to eat there and it was horrible. but it was an experience. hahas. we felt really sick after. well not really sick, but like our insides were just lined with oil.
Even the fries were mega greasy. hahahahas. We’ve decided not to go back there for another three years. heh.
Well, at the urging of my favourite wild child tudung friend, I’ve decided to post more photos of the little shoot we did a few weeks ago. We really like these, so hopefully you do too :) Thank you Robby!
Click.
Our favourite picture of the bunch. We would love this in a big print. heh. Not to be narcissistic or anything.
It was a really small ledge and i was very afraid of falling. hahas.
Flare is awesome when used appropriately.
That’s it! well there’s more, but i’d rather not add more pictures of ourselves. hahas. But! photos from our adventure at the hattiesburg train station next post.
sitting sitting sitting at gate 61 at the Hong Kong airport…
waiting for the flight to board. legs and body are aching uncomfortably for sitting pretty much 14 hours straight.
wishing I was still in the US with Daniel and that I had just arrived there instead of just left.
wishing teleportation was a certified way to travel so I could go back and forth anytime. and everyone can go anywhere anytime.
wishing I didn’t have school tmr morning at 9am (I arrive home at 1145pm).
wishing I didn’t have to even go to school and that degrees weren’t so impt in Singapore.
hahas yeah this is what sitting on aeroplanes for 20 something hours will do to you. it’ll turn you into a stupid whiny person who wishes for things she can’t have.
sigh hope everyone is having a better day than me!
anyways, lots of good things happened yesterday. Daniel and I went to work (well, i just went with him, he went to work.) He works as a retoucher/assistant for an established local photographer. What was awesome was that his boss wanted to photograph us and we were definitely up for it cos well, no one hardly ever takes pictures of us together! :D sooo…we had a really awesome time modelling! here’s a little sneak peek at what the shots looked like.
We really like that picture :D
So after our “hard” day at work,we get home and we’re both really tired. before i go on, for the past week i had been thinking of extending my stay here for multiple reasons. And i called United Airlines to see how much it would cost to go ahead and change my flight. the cost was 500SGD (350USD). when i heard that, i was pretty apprehensive and disappointed. This was Monday. I told myself to kinda think it over, see if it was worth it. I mean, i do have the spare cash from this contract thing with a phone company, and i was going to spend it on shopping anyways if i didn’t use it. Plus i also found out that i might have some job opportunities if i stayed a little longer, so maybe i could make the money back.
So on thursday, the day we were “models”, I called United Airlines, all ready to pay the money and everything. I get on the phone with the guy. We’re talking and he says, nonchalantly i might add, “Hey i think i can actually change your flight for free.” and i was like, “:-O” hahahahas. and i said, “really??” and he’s like, ” yeah there’s some storm waiver they just put out, you lucked out today.”
He basically made my day. I proceeded to do a little dance and jump around for a good 5 mins. No one was around and Daniel was in the room asleep so there wasn’t any sharing of the joy. I tried to join him and take a nap but i couldn’t sleep that well cos i was so excited. hahahas.
Hee!!! so i shall be leaving on the 16th of January, a week later basically. this also means i get to see Paul Johnson and the About Last Nights live in Mobile, Alabama :D two of Daniel’s close friends are in that band and i’m pretty excited to see them live. On top of that, i’m really really excited to go to this thrift store there, apparently it’s VERY VERY BIG.
Speaking of thrift stores - i got FIVE PURSES for FIVE DOLLARS today. And they aren’t exactly cheap and crappy. They’re awesome purses. two of them look a little cheaper, but they’re casual cloth bags so that’s fine.
I am in love with thrift stores. FLORALS HERE I COME! hahahahas. :D
I hope everyone is doing awesome. i love you all!
p.s i just recently updated my fashion section on my website with new work that i’ve done during the past six months, take a look! - stephgohphotography.com — i love having my laptop back. hahas.
hey all! so sorry for the lack of updates. my laptop is bust. :( it’s at a point in time where I have no idea what to do anymore with it to fix it. sigh.
anyways I’m having a blassst here. a little bit more laid back than city life, so it’s a good break!
thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes! I bought alcohol for the first time in the US and it was a dirty martini :D
anyways it’s 243am and I am tired. so good night my darlings!! something a little more visual next time, I promise ;)
